硫酸铵是一种速效性肥料，用于一般农作物，可做追肥、基肥、种肥，土壤缺硫地区尤为适用。但对酸性土壤须与石灰配合(非混合)施用。此外，还可作焊药，织物防火剂，医药生产的盐析过程，食品酱色的催化剂，酵母菌培养，酸性染料染色的助燃剂和皮革的脱灰剂等。在中性和石性土壤上施用易引起土壤结板。长期施用硫酸铵会增加土壤酸性。

产品包装、搬运及贮存
用内衬塑料薄膜袋(或内涂塑料薄膜)的聚丙烯编织袋包装。搬运过程中轻拿轻放，防止破包。
在室外贮存时应注意防潮，防雨淋，避免在高温下贮存，也不可与碱性物质混合存放，失火时可用水浇。

硫酸铵英文缩写SA，分子式：(NH4)HSO4，溶于水，不溶于乙醇。水溶液带有辛辣咸味，硫酸铵分解温度为280℃，放出氨气变为酸式硫酸铵NH4HSO4，温度的变化对硫酸铵在水中的溶解度影响不大，本身相对吸湿性较小。
